My name is Stephen Harris and I moved to Spain from Essex ten years ago. I ran a successful manufacturing business for 25 years back in the UK but when things began to slow due to manufacturing sector being moved to China I decided I was going to make a new start and indeed a new life for myself. At this point I was the owner of a boat on the East Coast and sailed whenever I had the time, only as a hobby and passion though. I really wanted to turn my passion into a reality and set up a business and also relocate to a sunny climate. This I did some 10 years ago now, buying myself an ocean-going yacht and spending around two years sailing around the whole of the Southern coastline, researching and generally enjoying myself. Eventually I set up Sail and Stay from Marina Del Este in La Herradura. I chose this part of the coast because of its many wonderful places to stop and anchor with numerous bays, coves, caves and waterfalls.
Initially I took the excursions on my original yacht but two years ago I actually sold my old boat and bought a bigger Catamaran which is much more adequate with its larger decks and more spacious accommodation. We now operate with three sets of crew offering a choice of excursions throughout the day. The Breakfast Cruise where we often see dolphins and the Sunset late evening Cruise are two of my favourites.
I am hoping to build on the success we have achieved and buy a second, bigger catamaran which I would use for long cruises and to live on board with my wife Maggie while we explored the Mediterranean. A new website would show the current location and we would have the guests fly out to join us for each leg of the intended tour and staying up to a week onboard.
If you fancy having a look at our set up we have just finished filming for the ‘Homes by the Mediterranean’ TV show to be aired in September!
